I know I v been talking about that a lot, many will think of me as an obsessed, yet the truth is, I'm sick of all these pretentious, shallow, narrow minded people who go by appearance, and appearance only, whom I owe no explanation.. Therefore, I'm just making things clear for those who want to know before judging, and those who can't find time to read my profile description.. though I doubt they will find time to read this.. :-#
Yet, at first, I want to make a statement, about me called a freak for being gothic n metalhead,my reply is that I 'd rather be called so than being one of you, one of everybody, I'd rather be called so for refusing to belong to the flock of cheep, I would love to be called so for thinking, for choosing my path, for knowing the real me for who I really am...and for being unique, for even though in gothism, we may look alike to you, the truth is, we wear only what we want, what reflect ourselves, it's like looking back deep into the mirror.. My appearance is nothing but a complement to my dark insight. hence, every single one of us has his personal touch, you are simply unable to see it. in fact, among others, it's what makes us different, our ability to see beyond empty shells, to gaze deep into the soul...
Yet, looks are indispensable as well, for as I said before, appearance completes our inside to be reflected in the outside, that's why it's essential, because once standing before the mirror, I only see me looking back at me, and no one else...none but me... and as a gothic metalhead, my look must be felt and choose by none else but ME..
Personally, I only wear black, rarely with some dark grey, some dark red, some dark blue.. And it's so not because I'm psycho.. I wear black simply because I love it, and I feel it not just as a colour, to me it represents my mind. besides, it's the absence of colours, which leads to a philosophic concept... and this is what gothism is all about: a personal dark philosophy that we look at the world through... at least my own personal conception of gothism...
Sadly, there are some pretentious who are simply FAKE, some of them are called gothic or metalheads only because they look like so... yet they are forgetting that gothism is not just a look, and never was... it's way beyond appearance, it's a whole concept that evolves to become a life, not just a temporary phase, like my parents still tell me 6 years ago, it's a private world, an overworld, and unlike “ordinary” people ,i actually chose my path, and everything else, for in order to find myself, everything must belong to me...
for example, why does nicknames represent a lot to us??? Because, our birth names mean nothing!! It has nothing personal, nothing private, nothing unique... and the most disastrous, is that those names were picked by family.. That's why, we choose our own names, names that we feel better, we understand better, and above all, represents us for who we are, for who we have chosen to be.. at least my nickname does...
And PS: I'm not sad because I'm so... I'm so because I'm sad...
Yet it's so not the common sadness that people know, it has another concept in gothism or even in metal, for once inside our world, at least mine, it's no longer pejorative, nor many other rejected words, such as pain, gloom, evil... we treat those words with a very personal way, and not to forget that the whole ideology of gothism is based on a dark inward concept.. we unlike ordinary people appreciate melancholy, not as a weak state of mind, but as a way of introspection and soliloquy.. it's like shutting oneself in, to unlock the depth of one's mind.. searching for the one and only identity, not for a reflection.. and that's why we appreciate solitude and introversion.. it's the feel of absolute loneliness that leads to inwardness... the feel of sublime melancholy that leads to bliss, and not just any bliss.. a dark gloomy bliss...
Even, the music is mostly not just a music that we listen to and learn for sometime then forget about... and I insist it is so not the case of all metal music, I'm talking about the music that stands for this dark, melancholic, gothic concept.. A music that is part of this dark world.. such as many categories in metal, like doom ,which is characterized by its very slow rhythm, very low tuned guitars and a very melancholic atmosphere reflected in music and lyrics as well with its dark, gothic, pessimistic themes.. though doom metal is itself devised into many
genres from which I'm going to name my favourites:
'Death doom' combining the slow pessimistic atmosphere with deep growling vocals...e.g.: 'my dying bride'(a doomed lover...),tristitia(Reminiscences Of The Mourner...)
'Funeral doom' played at a very slow tempo with mournful chant or painful growling creating a melancholic gothic dreamy ambiance.. e.g. : skepticism, funeral..
'Epic doom' using funeral choirs, gothic operatic vocals to accentuate this drear ambient..
That's why it's not just the rythm that matters.. the lyrics are nothing but poems, intimate poems revealing certain feels and emotions.. and it's not the type of 'dance with me', 'kiss me', or 'love me' !!!! and it dosen't include the word 'party'!!! it's a story of anger, pain, revolt, darkness... a personal private story...
Even in 'Death metal' ,'Black metal' or 'Extreme progressive metal', the growling vocals are not a way to make noise, it's an expression of anger ,rage, grudge and revolt.. along with the heavy music known to be as disharmony, the truth is many don't know how to listen, or how to distinguish the order within the chaos, it's like admitting that all growlings are the same.. which is absolutely wrong...e.g.:
'Opeth' (ghost of perdition, demon of the fall, bleak..)
'Behemoth' (at the left hand of god... conquer all...)
'Opera IX': I adore their gothic folk atmosphere (Beyond the Black Diamond Gates...)
'Dimmu borgir' (Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse, Kings of the Carnival Creation..)
Yet, without mentioning that the lyrics are written by the band, mostly by the singer himself, and what can be more intimate than that, singing oneself's own lyrics..
Evidently, Romanticism as well is characterised by this intimacy..
The Lyricism for example uses the “I” to reach the most intimate level of the being... (a second please!! wasn't I talking about that earlier in Gothism!! Yes I was!!!)
Therefore, Romanticism as well as Metal and Gothism does have in common, nearly, the same ideology, the same intimacy... to notice that you have to be familiar with the Literature of Victor Hugo, Gerard De Nerval, Charles Baudelaire... you will come across melancholy, pain, darkness, revolt... (and I believe I mentioned those terms before, talking about Gothism) in fact it's what metal lyrics is all about.. the expression of personal feelings and emotions. in fact, we may be the modern descendant of Romantics... it's most obvious in literature, yet, even the music in Romanticism became a philosophic ideology based on the individuality of styles, which is evidently the case of the “real” Metal music, for example, the Lied with its combining style between vocals and feelings, practically the same accord in Metal, the Romantic Opera as well, surprisingly!!! Among many categories in metal, we may find:
'Symphonic orchestral metal' which is heavy metal music combined with symphonic music,
e.g.: haggard (the days as heaven wept, beavently damnation, origin of crystal soul) ...
'Operatic metal' with chants, choirs, or solo opera vocals such as soprano, mezzo soprano, bass, tenor... e.g.: therion (helheim, nifelheim, the rise of Sodom and Gomorrah, deggial)...
'Classical metal' with its classical symphonic aspect...e.g.: apocalyptica: mostly instrumental (hope, coma...)
Thought many have the impression that Metal music is nothing but noise and disharmony. it's simply nothing but another shallow prejudice.. I even named some songs to try in case of doubt...
One more thing: pleeeeease not to confuse Gothic Metal with every band with a female singer!!! Especially, evanescence!!!! Pleeeease it's shameful indeed!!
For Gothic Metal is a whole gothic atmosphere, with mythical, melodramatic themes.. along with female vocals ,yet not any vocals. a vocal that can be part of that gothic, tragic, dreamy atmosphere.. in fact Gothic Metal is not about female vocals only, there can be some male vocals as well.. e.g.:
'Theatre of tragedy' earlier and I mean it because they got mad after the album Aégis: (a rose for the dead, decades...)
'Lacrimosa' (no blind eyes can see, senses my last good bye...)
'Tristania' with their symphonic operatic tendency only with their ex-singer... (deadlands, December elegy ...)
At last, I must say that there is no way to explain Gothism with words, for it's above all, a way of thinking, a way of life. A dark vision of the world, a very intimate vision...through
a gothic, melancholic, diabolic, still poetic and romantic perspective... at least my own vision!!!
Therefore, I don't want to see any msg asking me about all that.
I'm sick of repeating myself over and over again... usually in vain... :-#
So here is a tiny article!!
Get it or stay away!
For you may be consumed by the dark fire!!
